About the Robbie Shackelford Color Studies
Inspired by the book A Year in Art: A Painting a Day, Robbie Shackelford, in 2025, created at least 7 square paintings each month. He would take a view finding panel, move it across a famous artwork, and complete a painting based off that section.
Committing to a creative practice: It’s been over 40 years since Robbie’s first art show. A lifetime of studying and creating art, including classical techniques in the 1990s in Florence, Italy, has equipped him to develop his own style. It also taught him the importance of having an ongoing creative practice. You can develop one too! This can look like personal challenges (like the Calendar Paintings this year and the Color Studies), time blocks set aside to create, using prompts, or completing studies.
Available for purchase: A thoughtful selection of 12 of the 2025 Color Studies Series have been brought to the USA to be exhibited as part of the A COMMON LOVE show. They are available for purchase.
From Robbie: “A year in Painting diary with everyday a different quote and painting was a wonderful way to study color. I chose 7 paintings per month and painted a detail which dictated the palette and the style of painting I would do.”
